About this event

  • Event lasts 7 hours

Welcome to the Whistler One Day Writing Retreat & Workshop with Alli Vail! Join us for a day of creativity, inspiration, and focused writing.

At this in-person retreat, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in your writing surrounded by the stunning beauty of Alta Lake in Whistler. Let the serene surroundings fuel your creativity and help you find your writing flow.

Alli's workshop, Using Dialogue to Elevate Emotional Arcs, is designed for all levels, whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out. The goal is to provide you with a space to explore your writing, learn new techniques, and maybe even troubleshoot writing challenges with other participants in a supportive environment.

    Workshop Description:
It can be hard to pull off punchy, moving dialogue that sounds natural and carries an emotional payload. In this one-hour class, we’ll review published examples of strong inner and outer dialogue to learn how to pack an emotional punch into a few small words. We’ll explore dialogue that handles tough subjects authentically, how to make sure your characters aren’t saying too much, and how to make written dialogue sound like real people are talking (but better). Learn how to say more with less and experiment with what your characters are talking about.

    What to Expect:

We’ll start with a meet and greet, including a summary of what you're working on and/or your writing goals. Alli Vail (Brooklyn Thomas Isn't Here) will then lead a workshop on craft before you find a quiet spot to spend the day writing. Participants will meet again for a nourishing potluck meal to share ideas on craft and troubleshoot projects.
