About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

We often think the literary permission to write as we want exists outside of ourselves - it doesn't. Join memoirist, Helen Knott, for an interactive discussion around creating a framework for your memoir to nestle into.

Helen is a Dane Zaa, Cree, Metis and mixed settler descent woman from Prophet River First Nations. She is the author of the nationally best-selling book, In My Own Moccasins, which was longlisted for the RBC Taylor award, and shortlisted for a BC Yukon Book Prize, and the winner of a Saskatchewan Indigenous Peoples Publishing award. Her second book, Becoming a Matriarch, reached #1 selling status on the Toronto Star best sellers list, won the 2024 George Ryga Award, and is currently shortlisted for two BC Yukon Book Prizes. Helen holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and has worked in advocacy, wellness, and education within Indigenous communities for over a decade.
