Godalming Museum
Godalming Museum is a welcoming and vibrant cultural hub, founded in 1921 and situated opposite the Old Town Hall, affectionately known as the Pepperpot, in the heart of Godalming. We celebrate the rich history of Godalming and its surrounding areas through our extensive collections, exhibitions, and educational initiatives.
The museum welcomes everyone and is free of charge to enter, making it accessible to all who wish to explore the area’s rich heritage. Home to over 25,000 items, our collections form a record of the Godalming area spanning 115 million years, from fossilized sea creatures to records of modern life, showcasing the area's unique story. Highlights include historical objects, archive materials, photographs, books, and periodicals, all donated by the community.
We offer engaging events, including workshops for schools, research opportunities, and exhibitions on topics such as local legends like Jack Phillips and Gertrude Jekyll. Our mission is to preserve and share Godalming’s heritage, fostering curiosity and a sense of community.
Visitors and researchers are welcome to explore our resources in our Library by appointment, and we strive to provide enriching experiences for all ages.
