A little about me

I help people understand what is keeping them stuck, create meaningful change and, ultimately, live the life they want.

I’m Sonya Black, a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, trauma therapist and coach with more than 20 years’ experience. I work at the intersection of psychology, the nervous system, relationships and real life - bringing together evidence-based psychological approaches with an understanding of how our experiences shape the way we think, feel, behave, relate and respond.

People often come to me because of anxiety, trauma, overwhelm, burnout, relationship difficulties, major life transitions or simply a sense that they no longer feel like themselves. My work is about looking beyond the presenting problem to understand the patterns underneath it and, importantly, what can actually help those patterns change.

My approach is warm, straight-talking and practical. I draw on CBT, compassion-focused approaches, mindfulness, EMDR-informed work, somatic and nervous-system understanding, alongside more than two decades of working with people and the complexity of real life.

I don’t believe healing is about endlessly analysing the past or fixing something that is wrong with you, you are not broken. It is about making sense of yourself in the context of what you have lived through, helping the mind and body update, and creating greater choice in how you live now.

I’m also the creator of Transcend: The 3 Phases of Healing -a practical, trauma-informed framework that takes people from understanding and stabilisation, through healing and updating, towards reconnection, growth and living the life they want.
