Rosemary Sullivan

Author - "Where the World Was"

Biographer and poet ROSEMARY SULLIVAN is a professor emeritus at the University of Toronto. Her fourteen books include the critically acclaimed Villa Air-Bel: World War II, Escape and a House in Marseille and Labyrinth of Desire: Women, Passion and Romantic Obsession. Shadow Maker, her biography of Gwendolyn MacEwen, won the Governor General’s Award for Non-Fiction. Her most recent book, Stalin’s Daughter: The Extraordinary and Tumultuous Life of Svetlana Alliluyeva, has won numerous awards, including the RBC Taylor Prize for Literary Nonfiction. Sullivan has been the recipient of Guggenheim, Trudeau, and Jackman Fellowships and was awarded the Lorne Pierce Medal by the Royal Society for her contributions to Literature and Culture. In 2012 she became an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Michael Crummey

Author - "The Adversary"

MICHAEL CRUMMEY is the author of seven books of poetry, most recently Little Dogs: New and Selected Poems and Passengers, and the short fiction collection Flesh and Blood. His first novel, River Thieves, was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and his second novel, The Wreckage, was a finalist for the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. His third novel, Galore, won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize (Canada and the Caribbean) and was a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award. His fourth novel, Sweetland, was also a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award. His most recent novel, The Innocents, was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize and the Governor General's Literary Award. Michael Crummey lives in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Holly Hogan

Author - "Message in a Bottle"

HOLLY HOGAN is a writer and wildlife biologist with a focus on seabirds. During her more than thirty years as a scientist, she has spent about a thousand days at sea conducting avian and marine mammal surverys and providing educational programming with expedition teams. Her work has taken her to the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans, and every latitude in between. She has been interviewed for CBC Radio, appears in a National Film Board series called Ocean School and provided expertise on seabirds and the impact of marine plastic for the award-winning documentary Hell or Clean Water (2021). Alexander MacLeod

Author - "Animal Person"

ALEXANDER MacLEOD was born in Inverness, Cape Breton, and raised in Windsor, Ontario. His first collection, Light Lifting (Biblioasis), was a national bestseller, won an Atlantic Book Award, and was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, the Thomas Head Raddall Fiction Award, and the Commonwealth Book Prize. In 2019, he won an O. Henry Award for his short story “Lagomorph,” which was originally published in Granta and is included in his forthcoming new collection, Animal Person. MacLeod holds degrees from the University of Windsor, the University of Notre Dame, and McGill. He currently lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and teaches at Saint Mary's University in Halifax.

About the Port Medway Readers' Festival:

The Port Medway Readers' Festival celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2022. It is a literary festival that has hosted novelists and poets such as: Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje, Esi Edugyan, Steven Price, Ami McKay, David Adams Richards, Calvin Trillin, Wayne Johnston, Russell Wangersky, Elizabeth Hay, George Elliot Clarke, Tomson Highway and Peter Robinson among many acclaimed others.

The Festival is an intimate affair in a picturesque fishing village on the south shore of Nova Scotia. We host three to four authors each July and August. A reading at the charming Old Meeting House is followed by a reception and book signing at the firehall.

Authors and readers have the opportunity for real conversation .

Do I need to wear a mask?

Although Provincial health guidelines do not currently mandate mask wearing, it is encouraged for the health & safety of the general audience members.

Do I need to bring a printed copy of my ticket and/or book purchase?

No, we will have a list of attendees at the door to check in. However, if you have a record of your ticket purchase online (email or through the app) that would be great, in case of any discrepancy.

What if I need to make a change or cancel my ticket/book order

Cancellations can be made up to 7 days prior to the event date. Please note that all Eventbrite fees are non-refundable. These fees provide the convenience of online booking and paying via credit card. There will be a link in your confirmation email to make changes to your booking.
