Early Childhood Assistant (On-Call Supply)

Location: Various Child Care Centers

Job Type: On-Call, Supply Position

Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) to implement developmentally appropriate activities and programs for children.

2. Assist in creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children to thrive.

3. Support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through play-based learning activities.

4. Help with the supervision and monitoring of children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety at all times.

5. Assist with daily routines, including meal times, diapering/toileting, and nap times.

6. Foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues through effective communication and teamwork.

7. Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, including sanitizing toys and equipment regularly.

8. Adapt to the policies and procedures of each child care center while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

9. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability by traveling to various child care centers as required for on-call shifts.

10. Ensure punctuality and reliability in fulfilling on-call shifts, understanding the importance of being available to support child care centers when needed.

11. Create and manage your own schedule, coordinating availability with the child care centers and maintaining clear communication with the scheduling coordinator.

12. Consistently demonstrate efficiency and dedication in your role, potentially leading to increased hours and opportunities for full-time or part-time employment.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or related field is an asset.

2. Previous experience working with young children in a childcare setting preferred.

3. Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.

4. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with RECEs and other staff members.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with children, families, and colleagues.

6. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to different child care center environments.

7. Ability to travel to various child care centers on short notice as required for on-call shifts.

8. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license may be required.

9. Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.

10. Clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening.

11. Up-to-date immunization records, including TB testing, in accordance with provincial/territorial regulations.

Registered Early Childhood Educator (On-call Supply)

Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum plans and activities that promote the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children.

2. Lead and supervise Early Childhood Assistants, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and education.

3. Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where children feel valued, respected, and supported in their learning journey.

4. Establish positive and collaborative relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners, fostering a sense of belonging and engagement.

5. Conduct ongoing observations and assessments of children's progress and development, using this information to inform individualized planning and goal-setting.

6. Maintain accurate records of children's learning and development, adhering to confidentiality and privacy protocols.

7. Collaborate with families to support continuity of care and enhance children's learning experiences both at home and in the child care center.

8. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and standards related to early childhood education and care.

9. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education and pedagogy.

10. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the child care center's programs, policies, and practices through reflection, feedback, and collaboration with colleagues.

Qualifications:

1. Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution.

2. Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).

3. Previous experience working with young children in a childcare setting.

4. Sound knowledge of child development theories, early learning frameworks, and best practices in early childhood education.

5. Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to mentor and coach Early Childhood Assistants.

6. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

7. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.

8. Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children and families.

9. Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.

10. Clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening.

11. Up-to-date immunization records, including TB testing, in accordance with provincial/territorial regulations.
