Counselling and Career Services is proud to offer Inquiring Minds Training FREE to our students.

The Inquiring Minds program was developed to provide practical knowledge & skills to address mental health & mental illness on post-secondary campuses. The goals of this course are to provide practical knowledge to:

  • Support the mental health and wellbeing of students;
  • Enable the full academic, personal, and interpersonal success of students;
  • Ensure the campus is respectful and inclusive of all students, including those with mental health problems; and
  • Encourage students to seek help for mental illness

The course objectives are to give students a greater understanding of:

  • The signs of declining and poor mental health;
  • The effects of mental illness on the campus;
  • The stigma of mental illness and the barriers to treatment;
    • With a focus on self-stigma
  • The Mental Health Continuum Model;
    • Healthy, Reacting, Injured & Ill
  • Students’ mental health rights and responsibilities; and
  • Tools and skills to maintain their own mental health
    • The Big Four: SMART goals, Mental Rehearsal/Visualization, Self-talk & Calming/Deep Breathing

The training is 3-hours in length, and students are provided with a certificate of completion of the training from the Mental Health Commission of Canada upon completion. There are 5 modules – Mental Health and Illness on Campus, Stigma & Discrimination on Campus, Warning Signs, Self-Care & Creating a Supportive Campus. There is zero cost associated with the program.
