Historically, the first couple weeks of June is a changing of the seasons in the mountain parks. The last of the winter ice has melted off the lakes, revealing pristine lakes with jaw-dropping reflections. Wildlife is in abundance with elk, moose, & bear sightings common, including newborn offspring. Waterfalls are at their highest flow for the season with the mountain runoff, and alpine wildflowers start to bloom. Jasper in June is one of the best locations and months for shooting in the Rockies, and it falls just before the massive Summer crowds start to appear.

During this 4 day/3 night workshop you will learn how to compose, shoot and deliver top-notch images that you will be proud of. The workshop is limited to just 7 participants to ensure everyone receives hands-on guidance from the workshop instructors. The instructor will guide you through their processes, from preparation to execution in the field. Master concepts such as focus stacking, long exposure through the proper use of neutral density filters, bracketing, metering a scene correctly, and much more!

Cost: $1750 + GST & Fees - Double Occupancy, 2 Bedroom Cabins

50% Non Refundable Deposit is required to secure your spot

We will visit a vast array of locations in the area that are very well known to your workshop instructor from years of experience in the area. In order to get the best light for our scenes, we will be taking full advantage of sunrise and sunset golden hour. Sunset will be just after 10 pm, (the final light usually disappears just before midnight), and sunrise is at 530am. Blue hours are stunning in the Rockies and our shoots will extend into the night when the stars come out. The days are very long in Northern Alberta and twilight remains through most of the night, but it is still possible to view the moon and stars. So prepare to have some short nights at your hotel, don't worry - you will definitely have some free time during the day to catch up on rest.

We will meet up at Becker's Chalets on the afternoon of June 4th, for an introduction and some guidelines of what to expect during the workshop. A questionnaire to determine how what to develop in terms of photography skills will be emailed to participants a month before the workshop begins.

This workshop is open to all level of photographers, from beginners to those who are looking to master specific techniques and concepts.

Wildlife will be a component of this workshop If we have a chance to view safely without disturbing it, or disrupting traffic. Your instructor will teach you what is expected in general with wildlife and Jasper's specific guidelines.

Testimonials:

"Well planned and researched workshop. Monika knows the Jasper/Banff area like the back of her hand. She is a complete pro, with the required permits and insurance. I was impressed with how ethical Monika is in terms of interactions with animals, at the same time ensuring everyone in the group gets the shot without putting any animal or human in danger.  Monika engages with everyone. For shy photographers, she doesn’t wait to be asked for help which I really appreciate. She not only helps with technical / camera settings but really focuses on composition. Encourages the development of soft skills like patience. Plus she’s really fun! You will definitely have a lot of laughs as well as great pictures to look back on." - Michelle Jones

"[Monika] found a way to capture every important moment we would hope for with our camera. Their knowledge of Jasper locations for Amazing captured of so many Wonderful moments. I would like to thank you guys for doing such a great job for us! You both are such talented photographers & knowledge teaching how to use our camera gave me the Best pics I've ever taken. I was thrilled with results of my Jasper in June Experience & with the time spent in Jasper during weekdays for less crowds." - Charlene Tondu

“I attended the Jasper in June photography retreat as a way of reigniting my interest in photography. The workshop was an excellent mix of technical information and practical ways to implement the skills. [Monika's] knowledge of the area was key in making sure we had a good balance of opportunities to photograph landscapes and wildlife. We were given opportunities to ask questions and get feedback on our images. The small group setting was ideal for ensuring each of us got what we needed from the retreat. I would definitely recommend the experience!” - Jen Russill

Monika Deviat is an award-winning photographer, educator and speaker and Nikon Ambassador based in Alberta, Canada. Monika’s photography spans multiple genres and demonstrates her versatility, technical skills, and unique perspective. Her career began with concert photography, taking her across North America to shoot hundreds of bands and dozens of festivals. In 2015, she shifted from shooting stars on stage to stars in the sky. Night photography has become Monika’s personal favourite genre, and it goes hand in hand with her landscape and adventure images. She is driven to capture unique scenes that inspire a sense of wonder and appreciation for the wild places surrounding us. Her photos have been published in national and international books, magazines, and webzines. As a workshop instructor, Monika is passionate about sharing knowledge and creating memorable experiences.

"Monika is obviously a great photographer who takes pride in the moments that she creates. What is not so obvious, and more importantly in my opinion, is that she enjoys educating people and is a great person. I have had the pleasure of taking a night photography editing course taught by her and have been in attendance for one of her night photography seminars. The passion that she has for the art of photography definitely shows through. In her course, she takes the time to teach. When she helps, she will give you her undivided attention at making sure you succeed in what you are trying to do. If you do not understand something that she presents, she will patiently ensure that what she is trying to convey makes sense to you.

Furthermore, she enjoys sharing information and this is evidenced by her personal blog and other articles that she has published. These are the traits of someone who truly enjoys teaching about their craft.

I can say that in the past years that I have known her, she is a pleasure to be around because she not only remembers people but takes the time to actually talk. If you have an opportunity to learn from her, either by taking a course, listening to her talk, or hiring her as either as an instructor or as a photographer, please do so. You will have no regrets."
