The Poor Chefs Competition
Thu, 23 Feb 2017, 6:00 PM
Operation Come Home is pleased to announce our Second Annual Poor Chefs Competition! As a part of this year's Reality Campaign, the Poor Chefs Competition is designed to highlight the struggle our clients, and all other people living on social assistance, face preparing a nutritious and tasty meal.
We’ve challenged some of Ottawa’s favourite chefs to create a meal using only $3.15 and 3 items from our list of common food bank donations. The meals will be presented at the event where celebrity judges will evaluate each dish. The winner will have their name added to the Poor Chefs trophy and will receive a year of free knife sharpening from Knifewear (https://knifewear.com).
The event will be hosted by Eric the intern (106.1 Chez), and Steph Legari (stephthegrillinggourmet.ca). We're very excited to announce that this year's judges are,
Mike Bulthuis; executive director of Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa
Anne DesBrisay; local food author, writer and restaurant critic
Michael Maidment; executive director of the Ottawa Food Bank
Sandra & Carter; 105.3 K!SS FM
Catherine McKenney, Ottawa city councillor.
This year's participating chefs!
Lizardo Becerra - Andaz Ottawa Byward Market
Darren Flowers - Union Local 613
Ryan Edwards - Salt
Harriet Clunie - Beechwood Gastropub

Tickets are $25 per person, which covers admission and one drink ticket. Appetizers prepared by one of our social enterprises, Foodworks, (www.foodworksoch.com), will be distributed throughout the evening, in addition to a cash bar where wine and beer will be available. Each person will also have their name entered in a draw to sample each of the meals prepared for the competition.
